Checking out Facebook’s new news feed got me thinking that it’s remarkable that Facebook has succeeded to the degree it has given that it has offered such a piss poor experience for viewing imagery (pics and vid). This in an age when visual language is encroaching on the written word’s dominance at a hellacious rate. Perhaps the Instagram purchase has finally allowed Facebook to pay more attention to imagery. Either that or the bullish chatter around Google+ having finally arrived.

LOVE this quote: “This in an age when visual language is encroaching on the written word’s dominance at a hellacious rate.”
This is my site on FB if you want to peek. http://www.facebook.com/SocioVisualCommunications
Very good reason why i chose ‘SocioVisual’ as the name
I agree. I was always confused why Facebook took off as it did…However it DID and that’s why it held on despite it lacking in the design and code quality / buggy API department. They identified something that they needed to update in order to keep up in this game and they did. I think they needed to do this…Do I think it just looks like everything else? Google+, etc. ? Sure. But so? Facebook was never about originality. It was about conversion. Getting users and eyeballs on their site. Gobbling up Instagram and riding on its popularity and simplifying their stream is a no-brainer. I don’t think we were supposed to be blown away by this announcement. Especially given how it was delivered – like a 3rd grade show and tell.
Neat site Steve.
Tom you are so right. Facebook has never been originality. Just as the folks at friendster and myspace. Just as they saw Facebook in their rearview mirrors, Facebook passed them going 100 miles an hour.
That is exactly what I thought when I seen your site
I think it looks terrible and many people people are going to be pissed about it .
